The See of the laguna La Gaviota

This environment, full of reeds, returned to show his best side, with a level of high quality. How to face it, the best places and techniques, in this note.

“Quedate quiet July, which the lagoon was very well cared for during all the time that was closed and surely there are more great pejes than last year”, were the first words of Jorge, in charge of the place, when we call it with the intention of giving with the first major of the season silverside. Our intuition did not fail us.

The laguna La Gaviota is a mirror of approximately 35/40 acres in a private field, with a very acceptable water level: we sail and fish in places where the depth reached 2 meters.

All around the place is covered with reeds, in some places very dense, and opposite the Jetty there are areas of sparse reeds. It presents some soles, with two larger than others, that we can call main.

It is so quiet that there is in place, that the fauna appears to accompany the fisherman who enters the premises. We saw otters swimming quietly, two or three varieties of ducks and the picturesque appearance of black-necked swans that roam everywhere.

Silverside of the Seagull is boca chica, robust and very fighter, sharing the field with only “dientudos” and some catfish toads.

Here the fish are accustomed to the passivity of the place, and therefore the ideal is not to make noise when we reached the area chosen, mainly on the bottom of the pot so that it does not impact on the field.

The owner of the field and the head of the lagoon closed in September to reopen it in April, ensuring the care of the place. During the enabled there is a fee of 25 catches by cane.

We can use the traditional floating of three buoys or paternoster line, as you try to in an area with more or less aquatic vegetation. Rods: telescopic or plug up to 4 m, and also some not exceeding 3 m to be used within the dense reedbeds.

During a day of fishing permitted access for six boats, which may only use electric motors, thus ensuring a slight displacement of vessels and low noise not to disturb the area when going bare roads of rush, many times we make at every step.

The sector chosen for attempts we must approach without running and trying to slowly leave the anchor in the water or on some juncal. We can also tie us to the reeds to not make noise.

Sets are not very long, so we use rods a little shorter than usual for this type of fishing. And we dismiss almost completely on the use of boyon drive in our rigs of three buoys. N ° 1 hooks are the most commonly used because of the size of the mouth of the silverside, although you can also use a N ° 2 without any problems. As bait, the Minnow is always a good argument, but dentuda steak is almost all palms, being often the most effective. We must cut it no longer strips of 4 cm by 1 cm wide.

First approach

To the Seagull very few times we will find too curly, and many others are going fishing with much hesitation. Therefore, when we make the steak it is convenient to let a little bit of meat, without lowering it both to give it some mobility when we caught adrift.

Here we should use a small reel with 100 m of 0,25 mm Nylon And another reel we can load it with 0.31 mm when we caught between pastures.

Along with the two from Mar del Plata Fabios, most locals Osvaldo and Chichi, quickly program this output to be started the season of silverside, knowing that we were going to a paradise for the quality of silverside which we were sure we were going to get. We arrived very early to San Cayetano, where Jorge was waiting for us to accompany us to the field. After a careful dirt road arrived at the venue, and gate of through, we were already at the edge of the lagoon.

The idea was to fish until noon, eat one of the richer roast made to hot embers by Manager and return in the afternoon. We set up our equipment on the coast, some with floating rigs and other lines to try paternoster. And near silent electric motors we were getting in the lagoon, taking boats opposite directions to cover more of the mirror.

We had a very windy day, so sometimes the displacement was somewhat hindered by the low strength of engines. But a little went closer to a wall of reeds that we would repair. There we made our lances, taking care to not engage in back at the moment of throwing.

One half water was the first line to fall into the water, and immediately we got first silverside, which was around 35 cm and who had taken the last hook incarnated with Crappie.

Behind that line fell another float with three very different snoods (30 cm, 70 cm and 1.20 m). Sank just supported the surface of wood raft. But were “dientudos” that, frankly, there were many. We took some to have fresh bait and we moved in place, playing two or three sectors with the same characteristics and fishing.

As the “dientudos” were no longer welcome, use the plan “B”: fish in the small holes that let the reeds. And there began the feast.

This type of fishing is to support line, with a single buoy and three hooks literally within pastures, raneando, style and be very attentive to pique. With this technique we capture silverside of between 400 and 700 g.

More amazement

At noon, arriving at the pier we compare both boats fishing through Listofusnewspapers.com: there were only place for wonder by obtained sizes. After lunch we again boarded vessels, knowing that among the pastures were the best size. We only went to look for quality, which we each retrieved pique. It was a surprise after another, all silverside which averaged 40 cm, with several that arrived at the 800 g per kilo of weight. Sideways we looked unable to believe it, but we didn’t want to push the mark, because it bites one of the greats and it will be under the grass, it is very difficult to remove it.

We never got to the permitted quota because we really didn’t want to, but if the angler is willing to choose the fish to complete the permitted quota, we can assure that none will be less than 45 cm. With these data, the Seagull started, undoubtedly at the top of the ranking of the season.
